Delchevo was located at 1050 m. above the sea level huddled in the Eastern slopes of South Pirin. It is 8 km. away from Goce Delchev city, in the southwest direction.

The village appears around 17th century and up to the year of 1912 is under the Ottoman yoke.

At the end of 19th century there were about 560 Christian inhabitants, more than half of them were killed in the period of contriving the Ilinden revolt.

In 1934, the village was renamed under the name of the prominent Bulgarian revolutionist Goce Delchev.

Delchevo is a picturesque village situated in Southern Pirin Mountain, 8km. from the town of Gotse Delchev, Bulgaria. Most of the houses in the village are built in architectural style characteristic for the Bulgarian national revival period and 26 of them are national cultural monuments.

The village is nested amphiteatrically on the southern slopes of the mountain in order to bathe in the sun and it is also called “The sunny child of Southern Pirin”.

Delchevo has extremely favourable micro-climate: sunny and cool summer and mild winter. An unique atmosphere pervades the village reflecting the serenity of the mountains and the spirit of the bulgarian mountain inhabitants. The combination of authentic architecture, pure air and the beautiful nature makes Delchevo a perfect spot for holiday and recreation.

Folklore and Traditions

One of the tings that makes Delchevo an unique spot is that the traditions and folklore are kept alive and the visitors can participate in the festivities that are organized to revive and reenact these traditions.

- St.Trifon’s day (1st February)

If you like the authentic Bulgarian folklore you should visit Delchevo on the day of St.Trifon. Along with the symbolic cutting of the wineyards and the profuse wine drinking, you will also witness an unique reenactment of an authentic Bulgarian wedding. Everybody celebrates the festivity by taking part in the winding horo (traditional Bulgarian dance) in the village square and there are over 150 people wearing traditional costumes. For the wine-lovers there is a wine degustation of local wines.

- Enyov den (24th July)

It is an international 3-day festival organised each summer in Delchevo-a real feast for the soul and the senses.Representatives of various folk and ethno groups from different countries visit the village in order to celebrate together the longest day of the year.If you like partying and dancing you will enjoy this festival and you can also take part in the ritual welcoming of the rising sun and picking of herbs for health and longevity.
